Josef Ritter von Führich
Joseph von Führich (9 February 1800, Kratzau, in modern-day Czech Republic – 13 March 1876, Vienna) painted religious and historical themes. He studied at the Prague School of Art. In 1827, he went to Rome with a recommendation from sovereign Metternich and there he joined the Nazarenes, an art movement aiming to renew art based on religious foundations. In 1834 he returned to Prague, and became first curator of the Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts, where he later became a professor. His major works include the design of the Viennese church Altlerchenfelder 1854 – 1861.
