Obverse

Colours: shades of brown, green, red, yellow, and white
Four fifth of bank note has pale yellow-green security underprint in form of waving lines. The USSR coat of arms is in upper left corner, beneath of semi-frame with plant ornament and above cartouche with inscription. Denomination in the centre with inscription above and date below. Serial number printed in red is in between and to the right. The pale yellow cartouche with digit "1" is at the top of white panel located to the right. Watermark - rows of light and dark 5-pointed stars.

Small white panel with red-yellow digit "1" at the bottom is on the left. Large panel on the right has pale yellow-green security underprint in form of intertwined lines. Large multicoloured cartouche with yellow-green digit "1" and floral elements below is on the left. Small cartouche with red-white digit "1" is in upper right corner. Multicoloured abstract elements are forming frame with cartouches. Denomination printed in red is a centre and upper half of the frame. The denomination is repeated in 14 languages in cartouche with white background located in lower half of the frame. Another cartouche with inscription printed in green is at the bottom of the frame.

Comments

1) Two type clichés next to the denomination on the bottom left of the front side. The difference is in the right upper part of the diagonal line next to the denomination. The type “A” cliché has a small “spike” above the diagonal line, while the type “Б” cliché does not. Type "Б" cliché has been observed only in banknotes of the third issue (serial number starting with мБ). Type "A" cliché banknotes are approximately 20-25% more expensive than type “Б” cliché banknotes.

2) Two type of fonts in the serial number.
Letters against a blue background represent the 1st type, while the letter against a yellow background represent the 2nd type of the font. In total, there were used 20 letters of the Russian alphabet. The height of the capital letters of the 1st type of font is 3.5 mm, while of the 2nd type is 4 mm.

3) Two types of watermarks. The watermark used in all issues are diagonally arranged two type of stars. Usually, the stars are arranged diagonally from left to the right. However, the direction of the watermark is different in the banknotes of the 6th and 7th issue (serial numbers starting with Бм and мБ) - the stars are arranged diagonally from right to the left. Paper money collectors separate them into a separate variety. This difference practically does not affect the price.

4) There are two types of paper used to produce the banknotes. One is whitish and glossy, while the other is non-glossy and the paper is somewhat yellowish.

5) There were 7 issues of the banknote with different combinations of small and capital letters.
