Bavarian State Coin Collection

Munich

This small museum exhibits a very rich collection of coins and host some temporary exhibitions. It shows coins from Bayern, Europe and the whole world, from Antiquity to modern times. Some interesting explanations (in German only) highlight the history of some coins. The museum also exhibits medals and some banknotes. Guided tours can be organised upon reservation. The museum is located inside Rezidenz, and it can be accessed through Kapellenhof.

A really nice museum. In four rooms you walk trough the history of coins. From Ancient times to modern coins. At the moment there is an exhibition about tokens from WWI.

Very interesting and fascinating - even if you're not collecting older coins.
I took lots of photos there. Calm and friendly atmosphere.

Went on a Sunday for the 1€ admission. It's a nice smaller museum. Very few descriptions are in English but I used Google lens/translate to read the German descriptions. It was very informative and covered many eras of history. I spent about an hour there, but I read all the descriptions so you could do it in less time. I would recommend going but make sure to download Google translate before you go if you dont speak German.

Highly recommend visiting this museum and treasury. There are lots of rooms and treasures to see. To view the whole area you need about 2 hours. Well worth the €11 for entry.
